Summer-Fun-2020This summer is obviously going to look different than others and you might be wondering how to make the most of it.  We’re having to adjust our plans and our usual fun summertime road/plane trips, summer camp plans and even big outdoor parties are just not possible. The idea of socially distancing is still very important according to the CDC.gov .  We have been asked to limit close contact with others outside our household in indoor and outdoor spaces. Since people can spread the virus before they know they are sick, it is important to stay away from others when possible, even if you—or they—have no symptoms. Social distancing is especially important for people who are at higher risk for severe illness (or folks who are exposed to those at a higher risk) from COVID-19. This summer will be different, but summer fun 2020 can still happen!

Staying physically active is one of the best ways to keep your mind and body healthy. In many areas, people can visit parks, trails, and open spaces as a way to relieve stress, get some fresh air, and stay active.  Whether you choose one of those options or just hang out by the pool, have a cookout with your family, or simply read a book on your porch; being outside can not only give you your daily supplement of Vitamin D, but it can also improve your overall mood. Put up bird feeders and enjoy the wildlife, plan fun outings to get take out food and picnic, and take evening walks with neighbors who may be lonely and isolated in this strange time.

Bottom line is, don’t spend the whole summer on the couch!  Spending time outside is great for your overall health, but it also can open up a world of activities. Head to the lake for a day, tube down a river, or take a road trip to the less crowded parks or beaches. Being around and on the water is not only a great way to get out of the house, but because of the extensive planning that lake and beach attractions are taking to ensure you and your family’s safety during this time, it is a perfect chance to make summer memories with your family. It’s summer fun 2020, and don’t you forget it!

When visiting Lake Murray, our parks, beaches, or recreational facilities that are open for public use, try to protect against exposure by practicing social distancing and everyday steps such as washing hands often and covering coughs and sneezes.  Be always mindful of others and try to follow these actions that the CDC recommends:

Summer-Fun-On-Lake-MurrayStay at least 6 feet from others at all times. This might make some open areas, trails, and paths better to use than others. Avoid crowded areas.

Avoid gathering with people you don’t live with.

Wear a cloth face covering as feasible. Face coverings are most essential in times when social distancing is difficult. Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, can’t move, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
